Searching

Search Tips

Basic Search, found at the top of virtually every page in the store, gives you quick, simple, and reliable access to the Music Licensing Store Catalog. Search by keyword, song number, or artist name.

Below is more information about using a Keyword, Song Number, or Artist Name to find the songs you are looking for:

Keyword (for example: Women)
Enter any word or words in the Keyword field and the search engine will return songs that match your keyword(s). Each song has very specific information associated with it (called metadata), like a mood, theme, style, sub-genre, description, and category. The search engine combs through this information to find matches to your keywords.

Song Number (for example: 1029200015)
Each song in the Music Licensing Store has a specific identification number. Enter a song ID number in the search field and the search engine will return the song you are looking for. This feature is great for re-visiting songs or locating a song on the suggestion of a, friend, colleague, client, or co-worker.

Artist Name
Searching by an artist's name is a quick way to explore the songs of a particular artist. Enter an artist's name when you only want to see Rumblefish songs by that artist. Every artist who has songs in the Music Licensing Store catalog will appear in the artist drop down list. You may also visit the artist search page to explore more of our amazing artists.

Exact Keyword Search

If your search returns too many results we suggest doing an Exact Keyword Search by including quotation marks around the word you are searching for (for example, "keyword"). The Music Licensing Store search engine will ONLY return songs containing that exact word in the descriptions. For example: If you search for "fun" with quotes the search engine will NOT return songs with "fungus" in the description.

Logical Operators

When your search results are either too specific or not as specific as you want, you have several options. In addition to trying Advanced Search or Exact Keyword Search, you can use a Logical Operator to modify your search keywords. Logical Operators are linking words like AND, OR and NOT, which combine the criteria and allow you to narrow or broaden your search. Enter a Logical Operator with your keywords as part of a Basic Search.

Use AND, OR and NOT in the following ways for the best results:

Search for:
women AND children and the search engine will return songs with the word women AND the word children in their metadata.

Search for:
challenge OR competition and the search engine will return songs with the word challenge OR the word competition in their metadata.

Search for:
old NOT ancient and the search engine will return songs that contain the word old and NOT the word ancient in their metadata.

Mixtape Search

Searching by Mixtape is similar to song searches, except Mixtape searches return groups of songs that fit that specific Mixtape theme.

Searchable Mixtapes are organized by theme. For example, if you entered "Drive Fast" into the Mixtape search box, you would return all Mixtapes that contain songs that our music experts determine would be good songs to listen to while driving fast.

If you want to browse the themes for all Mixtapes, visit the Mixtape Search page, then simply click the drop down menu or click the "View All Mixtapes" link.
